Alfred Retouched
A simple enough project, my goal was to improve Alfred without resorting to adding all kinds of gear to make him "unique". Easily the artwork was a great illustration to model from and it just takes a bit of paint and so on to make this figure stand out. Starting with the sculpt which was repainted with oils I merely repainted the gear and added a few details. Of course everything was weathered and he's now on display with my other figs. Below are some overall views and a brief description on what I did.
Aside from repainting the sculpt the biggest challenge was getting the smock in order. Since it's some type of synthetic it refuses to hold any kind of shape or wrinkle. Hairspray to rescue! I saturated the uniform with extra hold hairspray while it was on the figure, wrinkles creases and folds were manipulated into place and this was allowed to dry. I drybrushed a very light buff color to lighten the overall color of the unifrom and helmet being sure to hit the highlights rather heavily. Once this dried I painted all the edges of the uniform parts with a thinned version of my buff paint which did a nice job simulating the fading of the smock along these edges.

For effect I unhooked the back of the helmet cover and used invisible thread to hold it up as shown, I've noticed this detail in many prototype pictures. The helmet also received a new leather chin strap and buckle.

You can see in the picture on the left that I added the support strap for the MP44 ammo pouches, this was made from a strip of leather and some miniature rivets.

I also added scratch gaiters to Alfie boy. Why? Well I made a bunch prior to Dragons release of their own cloth gaiters and I thought I would go for the more olive drab type with the natural leather straps. I used the boots supplied with Alfred and carved the molded gaiters off with an exacto knife. Not much to it really.
